Philosophical Babble

This started out being a post on chia seeds, but it turned more into my philosophy (if you can call it that) on nutritious eating. Instead of making my chia seed post a long rant I thought I would post this separately.

Here we go....

Now before I start touting the benefits of yet another "super food", I want to clarify something. I do not believe in a miracle cure for anything. I do not believe there is a perfect food. I do not believe that your every ailment will be cured with whatever super food happens to be on the news.

I DO believe that God gave us an abundance of food for us to enjoy and use for our benefit. Whether you choose to use every super food that hits the market or not, that is up to you. Personally I just find it fascinating to learn about all the things God has created.

Have you ever thought about how many "AMAZING" foods people have discovered over the years? There's no way you could eat all of them on a regular basis. Which is why, the more I learn, the more I realize that there are different seasons of eating. So, right now may be a chia seed season. But soon I may switch to a goji berry season. Or spirulina. Or whatever I feel my body needs (or looks fun!) :)

I love visuals, and I usually drool over the lovely charts on Pinterest that have health benefits of...fill in the blank. There are several floating around on chia seeds which are really cool and informative. But I always left feeling a little depressed because in order to gain those benefits you'd have to eat about one ounce of chia seeds. Which is roughly 3-4 tablespoons.

That's alot!!!

My point is, do what works for you. If you want to make a chia seed pudding every morning, go for it! If you just want to use them for making chia seed jam, that's awesome. Whatever little ways you can sneak nutrition in your life is what's important. If you don't like the texture of chia seeds, or they are too expensive; God has you covered. He has created so many amazing things that our options are incredibly numerous.

Don't let nutrition rule your life or become your idol. In the end we will all die whether we eat chia seeds or not. And above all don't compare yourself to the superwoman next door. Or the blogger next door. Make decisions based on your own needs and the needs of your family.

You will notice that I DO write about the health benefits of herbs, spices, and "super foods". That's the way I learn! My writings are not exhaustive, nor do they take into consideration the specific needs of the person. Each person is so unique, every food will react differently in their system. Don't let this discourage you, but rather let it be a fun journey of learning more about your body and all that this world has to offer.

I hope you can leave my blog inspired to learn more and not bogged down by more shoulda, coulda, woulda's.

As they say...do your best, and let God do the rest! I think that can even apply to nutrition. :)
